How accurate is this modular OT cost calculator?
It produces an indicative planning range, not a quotation. The base figures and the six upgrade multipliers come from the same published cost model as our written cost guide, which reflects current Indian market conditions. Real pricing depends on site survey findings, structural readiness, the state of existing services, equipment brand selection, and market movement in copper and steel. Treat the output as a budget bracket for early feasibility work, then get a surveyed quotation before committing capital.
What is included in the figures?
The turnkey scope covered here is the theatre itself: wall and ceiling panels, hermetic and secondary doors, laminar airflow ceiling, air handling unit with filtration, ducting and pressure relief, epoxy or conductive flooring, surgical light, pendants, in-OT medical gas terminals and pipework, surgeon control panel, pass box, scrub station, OT electricals including isolation transformer, plus validation testing and documentation. It excludes civil and structural work, the plant room and chiller, the hospital-side medical gas source plant, and surgical equipment such as tables and anaesthesia machines.
Why does the range widen so much when I select upgrades?
Because the multipliers compound. Each upgrade is applied to the running subtotal rather than to the base figure, so selecting five upgrades on a high-case estimate produces a materially larger number than adding five percentages together would suggest. That compounding is real, and it is the reason theatre budgets set from a single headline number so often prove inadequate. If the high case looks uncomfortable, that is useful information at feasibility stage rather than at tender stage.
Does building several theatres at once reduce the cost per OT?
Yes, though less than most people expect. A twin OT configuration sharing an AHU and scrub area typically cuts per-theatre cost by around 8 to 12 percent against two standalone theatres. Beyond that, savings come mainly from shared plant capacity, a single mobilisation, and bulk procurement of panels and terminals rather than from the theatre scope itself. The calculator applies the shared-scrub economics only when you select the twin OT configuration.
What should I do with the number this produces?
Use it to sanity-check a feasibility budget and to test whether your specification ambitions match your capital. It is most valuable as a way of seeing which upgrade decisions actually move your number — for most projects, lights and pendants origin and retrofit conditions matter more than panel material. Then request a surveyed quotation. Any vendor pricing a theatre without a site survey is guessing, and so is any calculator, including this one.
