Why Maharashtra is different

Maharashtra has one of India's deepest private healthcare markets and one of its widest internal gaps. The Mumbai–Pune corridor holds a concentration of corporate hospital chains, quaternary-care centres, and teaching hospitals that compete on accreditation and clinical reputation. Two hundred kilometres inland, district towns across Vidarbha and Marathwada are still adding their first dedicated critical-care and cardiac facilities.

Those two markets need different things from an infrastructure partner. A Mumbai tertiary hospital retrofitting three theatres wants phased execution inside a running facility, documentation that will survive a full NABH audit, and specification parity with what its competitors installed last year. A hundred-bed hospital in Latur or Jalgaon wants a right-sized build that will not saddle it with running costs it cannot recover, delivered by a team that will actually turn up for the warranty visit.

We work at both ends. The engineering standard does not change between them; the scope and the cost model do.

State schemes shape hospital infrastructure decisions

Two funding streams influence most hospital capital planning in the state. Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, the state health assurance scheme, and Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY together drive significant patient volume to empanelled private hospitals, particularly outside the metros. Empanelment brings infrastructure and quality expectations with it, and hospitals building for scheme volume are usually building towards NABH accreditation at the same time.

The practical implication for a build is straightforward: design to the accreditation standard from the start. Retrofitting air change rates, pressure regimes, or medical gas redundancy into a facility that was value-engineered below standard costs far more than building it correctly once. We would rather have the harder conversation about scope at quotation stage than the expensive one at audit stage.

Medical education is expanding the pipeline

Maharashtra continues to add medical college capacity, both government and private, and each new college brings a teaching hospital with theatre, ICU, radiology, and central lab infrastructure attached to it. Existing district hospitals being upgraded into teaching facilities face a specific problem: their infrastructure was built for service delivery, not for the bed strength, departmental distribution, and inspection scrutiny that accompany academic status. That gap assessment is a distinct piece of work, and it is one we do.

Working in Maharashtra: what actually varies by city

Panel manufacturing, equipment, and engineering are constant. What changes city to city is the installation environment. Mumbai and Thane sites mean restricted working hours, constrained material handling, lift access limits in high-rise hospitals, and municipal permissions that need lead time. Pune sites are the most straightforward for us, being local. Nashik and Nagpur are comfortable road logistics with lower labour costs. Marathwada and Vidarbha sites need materials consolidated and dispatched in fewer, larger movements, and the schedule needs to respect that.

None of this is exotic. It just needs to be in the programme from day one rather than discovered in week six.
